Shin Gallery is proud to present Vapor and Light, located in the Shin Gallery Project Space in Bukchon, Seoul. The exhibition is an eclectic gathering of vibrant pieces spanning decades, nations and movements. From American artists including the unparalleled Cy Twombly and the fascinating outsider artist Purvis Young, to geometry-bending Hungarian abstractionists such as Károly Halász, Kálmán Szijártó, and Ferenc Lantos. This exhibition also showcases visionary Ukrainian-American artist John D. Graham, whose bold experiments in form have inspired countless artists since. A stunning, moody abstract expressionist piece by Paul Jenkins, as well as otherworldly works by Chilean artist Roberto Matta and Danish artist Else Fischer-Hansen, add depth and intrigue to the exhibition. Vapor and Light promises a diverse and captivating artistic journey
Among the contemporary artists featured is the excitingly raw Swedish artist Andreas Emenius and American artist Duke Riley, whose series on display is a loving, whimsical ode to the oft-maligned pigeon. French artist Sophie Calle’s, who was once called the “Marcel Duchamp of emotional dirty laundry”, work is also presented in all its startling intimacy. Sara Vanderbeek’s “Rising Moon” series explores light and form and Magda Bolumar’s thread-based art functions as almost a tapestry of the unconscious.
Equal grace is granted to emergent artists such as surrealist American artist Mel Arzamarski, the ever-playful and uniquely American, Peyton Freiman and New York artist Adam Hiembauch, whose vivid, pastoral landscapes seem to glow off the canvas. Dawei Wang’s ethereal compositions, which exist as if they were beamed in from a different, more gentle world, further contribute to the mesmerizing display of artworks.
This exhibition of bold artists conceals a cryptic language within each brushstroke, offering viewers a sensory reverie. Vapor and Light is a chronicle of artists ranging from the globally acclaimed to the overlooked, shining a spotlight on how these visionaries challenge our perceptions. Shin Gallery warmly invites you to witness these artists engage in a profound conversation that transcends borders, languages, time, and space—a celebration of experimentation and distinct modes of artistic expression.
