Jessica Sanders

Jessica Sanders uses organic materials to produce minimal works with a nuanced tactility. Using cast and poured beeswax, Sanders creates sculptures and paintings that are to an extent controlled, yet show evidence of material passing of time. Sanders earned her MFA in ceramics from Ohio State University, and a thread can be drawn from her beginnings in ceramics to her current work with beeswax; both clay and wax are malleable and can be guided by the hand, but are susceptible to a degree of material variability before settling into a static state. Despite being steeped in materiality, there is a corporeal quality to many of Sanders’ surfaces. Thinly layered beeswax on linen creates a semi-translucent membrane, while more built up canvases have a distinctly organic rippling. Sanders has exhibited since 2012 in solo and group exhibitions in the United States, Germany, Belgium, and Italy.
